What Fast Service Really Means For Equipment Rental Fleet Uptime

How strong service support helps protect rental equipment  utilization:

Uptime is one of the most critical performance measures in the rental industry. When a machine sits in a repair bay instead of the rent-ready line, fleet availability is immediately affected. This can lead to higher transportation costs, increased labor demands, added strain on shop resources and reduced responsiveness to customer needs. Ultimately, all of these factors have a direct impact on profitability and overall operating efficiency.

Most rental companies have talented service teams that handle the majority of maintenance and repairs themselves. The manufacturer’s role is to support them when challenges arise—through technical expertise, parts availability, responsive communication and, when needed, hands-on assistance in the field.

“Rental companies choose manufacturers that consistently support their business and stand behind their products,” said William Courtney, LGMG North America director of product support and service. “As an OEM, we can't guarantee uptime, but we recognize that the quality of our support directly impacts machine availability, utilization and ultimately our customers' return on investment. The human aspect is important too. When challenges arise, customers want experienced professionals who can help identify solutions and get equipment back to work as quickly as possible. That's what they remember long after the issue is resolved.”

For rental companies, a machine sitting idle is more than an inconvenience – it directly impacts utilization, revenue and customer satisfaction. At the same time, demanding jobsite conditions and extended project schedules continue to place greater demands on rental fleets. Scissor lifts, boom lifts and telehandlers are expected to perform reliably in challenging environments and often for extended periods of time. While rental companies manage the majority of day-to-day maintenance and repairs through their own service teams, they rely on manufacturers to provide responsive technical support, parts availability and product expertise when additional assistance is needed.

“When support is needed, our team is ready to assist,” Courtney explained. "We understand the realities of day-to-day rental fleet operations and the importance of minimizing downtime. Our product support team provides phone and email assistance to help customers troubleshoot issues, identify root causes and develop effective solutions. In many cases, remote support is the fastest and most effective way to resolve an issue and return equipment to service.”

Courtney explained that, even when a solution cannot be determined remotely, the LGMG North America’s team is prepared to take the next step.

“Our product support managers work directly with customers in the field to provide hands-on assistance and help resolve more complex issues. While much of the industry has moved away from face-to-face support, we continue to believe there is value in being on-site when needed, working alongside our customers to understand the problem and develop a solution. Sometimes the fastest path to getting a machine back to work is being there in person,” he said.

More than machine reliability

Even the most well-built machines require maintenance, troubleshooting and replacement parts, especially in demanding rental applications. Strong fleet support is defined by how quickly issues can be identified, how clearly solutions are communicated and how efficiently equipment can be returned to service.

For rental companies managing boom lifts, scissor lifts, vertical mast lifts and telehandlers, manufacturer support plays an important role in the long-term value of the machine. Equipment that is designed for serviceability, supported by accessible technical resources and backed by reliable parts availability can help rental companies improve utilization and keep projects moving.

When machines are assigned to large jobsites or long-term projects, every hour of downtime matters. Contractors expect equipment to remain productive, and rental companies need support partners that understand the urgency behind every service request.

“Fast service means responsive technical support, efficient diagnostics, accessible replacement parts and clear communication,” Courtney said. “It also means designing machines with serviceability in mind. Rental companies want to work with manufacturers that understand the pressure they face and are committed to helping them keep equipment working.”

To support customers, LGMG North America provides service representative territory information on our service page, giving rental companies a clear path to connect with their dedicated support contact by phone or email.

Accessible parts support also plays an important role in keeping equipment productive. LGMG North America maintains strong parts availability across the United States, with a focus on getting needed components to customers quickly and minimizing unnecessary downtime.

LGMG's service-friendly design also makes a difference. Simplified systems, improved component access and reduced unnecessary complexity help technicians troubleshoot more efficiently and complete repairs more effectively.

Long-term support to shape long-term partnerships

In today’s market, aftersales support is a defining factor in manufacturer-rental relationships. Rental companies value long-term return on investment over short-term sales messaging. They want support that remains consistent throughout the equipment’s working life. As the rental market continues to evolve, manufacturers are being judged not only on the equipment they build, but on how effectively they support customers.

For rental companies, customer support is about protecting utilization, increasing uptime and the availability of manufacturer support. In a market where schedules are tight and demand is high, responsive support and practical serviceability will define the future of fleet performance.
